Frequently Asked Questions

Medical Microneedling, using the SkinPen device, works by causing controlled micro-injuries to the skin, which then stimulates your body’s natural wound healing process while minimising cellular damage.

The micro-injuries caused throughout the treatment stimulate the fibroblasts, which are found in cells and are responsible for producing new collagen.

There are three phases to the wound healing repair process, and these are outlined below:

Phase 1: Inflammation
By piercing the skin, the body’s immune system is triggered to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and create new tissue.

Phase 2: Proliferation
The new granulation cells, part of the extracellular matrix, rebuild the wound.

Phase 3: Remodeling
The new wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

Microneedling is a safe treatment that is suitable for all skin types.

The treatment is excellent for anyone looking to treat acne scarring and improve the texture and complexion of their skin. With clinical trials to support the efficacy of its results, microneedling treats a host of skin concerns in one treatment. They range from fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, melasma, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks and surgical scars.

It is crucial to make sure that before SkinPen treatments that patients do not have any inflammation or infected areas on their skin. Any wounds and inflammation (including cystic acne) will have to clear before commencing with treatment.

We allow 90 minutes for a treatment time frame.

The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes for a full face and 45 minutes for a full face and neck.

Before the treatment starts, we cleanse the skin and apply a topical numbing cream to the treated area.

Patient feedback is that the treatment is comfortable and relatively pain-free. Most people report feeling just the slight vibration of the device during the procedure. Some have fed back that they have found it relaxing, and some have even fallen asleep. Each customer is different.

The number of treatments needed is dependent on the individual and their skin condition. Some may need more than three treatments. As a result of the clinical trials, the manufacturers recommend that a course of 3 treatments be advised every 4 to 6-week intervals for optimal results. These are what the clinical results highlighted during the FDA approval process.

The safety of our clients is critical to our business model. That is why we have sourced a global leader in advanced technology and brought the SkinPen Precision device to our clinic.

SkinPen is registered as a Class IIa medical-grade device. It holds a registered CE mark in Europe and FDA registration in America and holds the highest ranks of safety and compliance. The device is also certified to ISO and BSI standards for quality and assurance. It has also been clinically tested and validated to prevent the risk of cross-contamination during treatment. Before the purchase of the device, we ensured that we had a copy of the above certifications.

There is minimal downtime following a SkinPen treatment. This usually lasts between one to two days.  Patients you can return to work or social activities the same or next day. Patients might experience mild swelling and redness/pinkness in the area (like a mild sunburn).

Immediately after the microneedling treatment, most patients will experience redness and mild swelling; this is normal and will subside within 24 to 48 hours post treatment.

There are limited risks to the skin, post treatment, which will be addressed during the medical consultation and on the treatment day. We have prepared post-treatment guidelines and what you should and should not do to safeguard yourself. Your Practitioner will advise you by providing you with essential post treatment aftercare.

This includes how to cleanse the skin, which skincare to use, limiting sun exposure and avoiding touching the skin to prevent bacteria from entering the skin, whilst your pores are open the first 4-24 hours.

There is a process of results that are achieved, and this varies from patient to patient. By day 7, you will begin to see signs of rejuvenation and healthy-looking skin.

For full results from a single treatment, patients will see this between four to six weeks. This is the right amount of time for your body to create new collagen and elastin by sending signals to your micro-wounds whilst also allowing your body to ramp up cellular turnover so you can get the new, healthy skin you want.

We send you home with an aftercare sheet detailing the dos and don’ts.

Immediately after your treatment, the first 24 hours are the most important as your microchannels (pores) are open. The immediate advice is to avoid touching the face, keep pets away from your face, and no hot or steam showers/baths. No makeup for 24-48 hours. Keep out of the sunlight and do not apply any topical serums to the face for 72 hours. Use only tepid water for the first 24-48 hours post-treatment.
